Thallium(I) iodide

The crystal structure of thallium(I) iodide, TlI

Crystal structure from:
L. Helmholz, "The crystal structure of the low-temperature modification of thallous iodide.", Z. Kristallogr. Kristallgeom. Kristallphys. Kristallchem. (1936) 95, 129-137.

The thallium iodide structure can be described and understood as a distorted NaCl structure.

Every anion is surrounded by eight cations and has cubic coordination geometry. Likewise, every cation is cubically coordinated by eight anions.

For any symmetry fans out there, TlI adopts the Cmcm space group (No. 63).
